Electrics perfected for classics
Our skilled auto-electricians specialise in tracing faults and refining wiring.
Ensuring every electrical system in your classic works safely, reliably, and exactly as it should.
Fault Finding and Repairs
Few areas of a classic car are as frequently tampered with, or as poorly repaired, as the electrics. Almost every vehicle has, at some stage, suffered from a badly fitted alarm, stereo, or wiring modification.
At Classic Collective, we specialise in pre-CANbus wiring looms (vehicles registered before 1990), allowing us to trace, diagnose, and repair electrical faults with precision. Beyond man-made interference, most failures are caused by corrosion at connections and earth points. Our team are experts at identifying these issues, restoring wiring with proper crimps and secure connections.
We also repair wiper, window, and fan motors, ensuring every part of your car’s electrical system performs as it should. If your classic has developed a few electrical gremlins, we’ll track them down and put them right!
Safety and Security
A high-quality battery cut-off switch is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your classic. It offers three key benefits:
- Immobilisation — secure your vehicle when unattended
- Preservation — prevent battery drain during storage
- Protection — instantly cut power and fuel delivery in the event of a fire or emergency
When it comes to safeguarding your classic, there is no better investment.
Loom Overhaul
In most cases, original wiring looms can be saved and often prove superior to modern replacements. Our experience shows that around 90% of degradation occurs within the last few centimetres before each connection. By re-terminating these ends rather than replacing the entire loom, we restore reliability while preserving originality.
The results are transformative: safer, more dependable electrics with a noticeably improved appearance. We can also re-wrap the loom with fresh protective tape, giving it a cleaner finish and added durability
Whilst not a small under taking, a loom overhaul is far more cost-effective than a full replacement and avoids unnecessary disturbance to the rest of the vehicle.
Replacement Wiring Looms
While new wiring looms can be purchased for only a few hundred pounds, fitting them is a far greater undertaking, often running into the thousands. Looms are among the very first components installed into a bare shell, routed through hidden areas that are difficult to access once the car is built.
Replacing one requires significant disassembly, followed by careful reinstallation and testing. To complicate matters further, new looms are supplied “bare,” meaning every termination must be completed, a process that can take a full day and hundreds of pounds in consumables.
For these reasons, replacement looms are usually a last resort undertaken only after an electrical fire or as part of a full restoration where the car is already stripped down.
